Uber Kenya now ferrying passengers to and from Airports past the 9pm Curfew

Ride-hailing service, Uber, will now allow riders to access its services 24 hours provided they are going to or from the airport.

At the start of September 2020, Uber Kenya begun allowing riders to hail a cab to and from the following local airports; Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Wilson Airport, and Moi International Airport.

The move allows passengers to get to and from airports several hours outside the government-imposed curfew hours. Kenya recently re-opened its skies for international flights.

An email from Uber to its Kenyan users read, “With this effect from August 31, 2020, you will be able to request trips to and from JKIA, Wilson Airport and Moi International Airport Mombasa 24 hrs a day. Whether you have a late flight to catch or your flight lands past curfew hours you will be able to access our services.”

Uber will only allow riders to use their service if their pickup or drop-off points are any of the three airports aforementioned. Customers are also expected to have a valid plane ticket in print or on their devices. “While on the trip, please make sure you have with you a valid plane ticket in electronic or printed format.”

The corona virus pandemic has had adverse impact on the travel industry across the global. Countries closed their borders and quickly imposed curfews in a bid to control movement, and hamper the spread of the novel corona virus.

Several countries have since opened their borders, albeit with several restrictions. Subsequently, travel is also slowly resuming, hence the need for Uber’s move to ferry passengers to airports past curfew hours.
