Kenyan startup Komboa has launched a car sharing platform.

It’s been about four months since Komboa launched their car sharing platform and even though they don’t have an app yet their new business has been welcomed by many. The idea is not like any other, many people either use public means or cabs but komba is challenging this way of doing things and transitioning into a sharing economy where you have a chance of renting a car long term.

To sell the idea to car owners may have been challenging because of security concerns but this has not stopped 150 people from registering with Komboa. The biggest part of this startup is convincing people to rent out their cars which currently is only operating in Nairobi.

As part of their expansion plan to other counties they hope to hit a threshold of 1,000 users before launching in other major towns. Just like other major car businesses Komboa will be taking 20 percent of every transaction that takes place on its platform. If this startup takes off it will mean that people who don’t want to own cars or can’t afford to will be able to now afford the luxury of having a car.
