WhatsApp will soon allow people to mute chats forever.

Currently WhatsApp gives people three options, you can either mute a group or a chat for a week or at most a year. However, WhatsApp is introducing a new option, you will be able to mute chats forever. The great thing about this is that you don’t have to block someone to ignore them you can simply mute them and you won’t get notifications on anything they send to you.

The new update has been spotted and tried.

The new version has been tested and mute option is now available in version 2.20.201.10 of the app. According to the company, this then replaces the option to mute a chat for a year. WhatsApp will also introduce new additional features such as hiding the voice and video call buttons in chats with verified business accounts. They will also be rolling out media guidelines pretty soon, these guidelines are meant to help you when aligning stickers and text when you edit images, videos and GIFs.

To mute a chat forever, open the chat, tap on the menu option on the top right and select Mute notifications. You will see the three options there with the last one being ‘Always’. Select it and press Ok. You can also select Show notifications if you want to just see notifications without an alert. Once muted, you can will see the Unmute notifications option in the chat settings instead of the Mute notifications option.
