How to scan and treat viruses in your computer

 Malicious software come in various kinds and sizes, however the one thing they have in common is that they are dangerous to your computer’s safety. Here are some of signs that your PC has virus:

  • Slow start-up and slow performance

If your Computer is running longer than usual or programs are taking ages to open, your PC could have a virus.

  • Missing File

Some malware creates problems by removing or transferring files and programs around. Some of them can encrypt your files so that you can’t access them.

  • Unexpected pop-up window

Unexpected onscreen advertisements are common signs of a virus infection. Not only are they irritating, there could be other malware poised inside to destroy more havoc.

  • Suspicious behavior on the hard drive

An overly active hard disk where it creates continuous noise or continuously spins – even though you’re not using your machine or running programs – may be a warning that your PC is infected with a virus.

If you eventually discover yourself without storage space on your hard drive, a virus can do its best to ensure your computer unusable.

  • Try to open the Task Manager.

To open the Windows Task Manager, press Ctrl+Alt+Del. If you don’t have access to it, a virus can block you from accessing it.

How to Scan Your Computer for Viruses

Windows 10 is always checking your PC for malware with the built-in Windows Security program, also known as Windows Defender. You can also perform manual scan by;

Open your Start menu on Windows 10, type “Security,” and click the “Windows Security” shortcut to open it. You can also go to Settings > Update & Protection > Windows Security > Open Windows Security.

Tap “Virus & Threat Protection” to run an anti-malware scan.

To check your device for malware, click “Quick Scan.” Windows Security is going to search and send you the results. If any malware is detected, you will be offered to remove it from your PC automatically.

Here are some ways you can take care of a virus infection in your PC;

  1. Run an anti-virus program

You should always have an antivirus program installed and run on your computer. If you don’t, there are a variety of free programs available, such as AVG or Avast. Upload and update one of those programs

  • Reinstall Windows now.

If anything, else fails and you can’t delete the virus with an antivirus program, you will need to reinstall your Windows copy and start from scratch.

  • Boot to Safe Mode.
