How To Apply For A e-Passport In Kenya

How do you apply for a e-Passport in Kenya?

In case you’re not aware, the government has extended the e-Passport migration for the last time. It is safe to assume that a number of people were too absorbed with the pandemic that this was not a priority, but now with things returning back to normalcy it is wise to move as soon as possible.

This time, you have until December to migrate of which thereafter the old passport will be considered null and void. If you travel a lot or use your passport as a form of identification then you’d probably want to follow the steps below.

1.Where do you register?

In case you’ve never used the eCitizen portal or you’ve doubted that it works, it actually does. Click on this link then if you don’t have an account you can create an account then go to immigration.ecitizen.go.ke and or Department of immigration services and click on the passport application form.

You’ll pay using mobile money, Credit, Debit Cards and online banking from local banks. Whatever you need to put as a mode of payment ensure you don’t miss a number and again follow instructions.

4.Download and print application form

This is rather obvious and straight to the point, if you don’t have a printer we advise you do this at the cyber.

5.Then head over to the immigration offices

It should take atleast 10 working days to get your first passport once your form has been physically submitted at the Immigration offices. For all other application types, it should take atleast 5 working days. It can take longer if more information is needed or your application hasn’t been filled out correctly.

What will you need?

  1. An eCitizen pre-filled passport application form and three receipts.
  2. Original birth certificate and photocopy.
  3. Original National ID Card & copy.
  4. Three Current passport size photos.
  5. Recommender’s ID Card copy.
