The Orange Social Venture Prize has invited applications for their 11th edition in Africa and the Middle East.
The move is part of the company’s strategy to boost socio-economic development of Africa as well as give support to innovation and entrepreneurship.
The prize will be hosting its 11th edition this year and it seeks to reward the best technological projects bearing a positive impact in Africa and the Middle East in sectors like education, healthcare-commerce and agriculture or projects that are inline with sustainable development goals.
For the year 2021, OSVP has packaged an international grand prize and in addition the international women’s prize. For the international grand prize, the amount ranges from $ 30 000 to $ 12 000 while the international women’s prize will be $24 000.
The competition usually happens in two stages starting with a national competition in 17 countries. The countries will each select three winners and at stage two the winners compete with each other before an international jury which selects the winners of the grand prize.
In 2020 the international grand prize went to Ahkil,a Tunisian Start Up with a revolutionary mental health telephone service which aims to be an effective alternative to a physical appointment. Other winners include Teliman an on-demand taxi service in Bamako and the third was Weeglo a multi-platform learning service that provides low cost education.
