The OPPO Reno5 F is the younger sibling of the ordinary Reno5, which have since covered and reviewed extensively here.
The Reno5 F costs Ksh 10000 less than the normal Reno5, but does it really mean it is less superior? The short answer is no, because the device is as impressive as the Reno5, with just a few compromises (that really wouldn’t be a bother for most people).

Now, what makes the Reno5 F cost lower than the Reno5:
- The screens are both AMOLEDS, but Reno5 F’s refreshes normally at 60Hz
- Batteries are the same size, but the F’s charges ‘slower’ at 30W. We put slow in quotes because the speeds are still very fast compared to the competition
- The chipset is a tad bit slower, and is made by MediaTek.
- Main camera is ‘only’ 48MP. Reno5’s is a 64 MP sensor.
- Selfie cam is ‘only’ 32 MP. Reno5’s is at 44 MP.
Mostly, these are the differences between the two phones, but can a normal customer feel the difference? No, because the devices are equally fast, have nearly the same battery performance, snap pictures that look mostly the same to a normal eye (Reno5’s are better if you have a keener eye), and feel the same in terms of build quality and overall presentation.
Our unit is the Fantastic Purple one, and we love it, so much because it is very pretty.
The back also has another key element: a better camera bump that houses all the lenses. The Reno5, on the other hand, has individual camera modules raised on the bump. We think the F’s just look better. Even the camera flash is beautiful.
Now, it should be noted that this is not a comparison, but we cannot avoid to shed light on these features because they are important, and will play a key role in your purchasing decisions.
So far, we haven’t noted any major differences between the two devices other than the stated ones, and of they make a lot of sense to you, then the pricier handset is a good choice.
However, if your budget is within the Reno5 F’s range, then we can’t see why you should not pick it up and have a good time while at it.
Now, we are testing the two devices so that we can have more insights in the manner they relate to each other, and why or not you should save some money, or spend more for a perfect companion.
