Quro Medical, a South African startup that provides homecare treatment for patients raises a $1.1m seed round

Quro Medical, a South African digital healthcare startup has secured $1.1 million in seed funding. The funding round is aimed at enabling the startup scale its operations across South Africa and the entire continent eventually.

In 2018, Dr. Vuyane Mhlomi and Zikho Pali founded Quro Medical. During childhood, Mhlomi grew up with parents who had chronic health issues. They spent a lot of time waiting to see doctors and specialists. Vuyane left his hometown of Khayelitsha, a peri-urban community in the fringes of Cape Town, to study medicine at the University of Oxford .When Vuyane returned he started Quro medical with a team of like- minded people. These are the people who became his response to an ailing healthcare system. The startup is based in Johannesburg and is focused on making healthcare more accessible and affordable.

Acutely ill patients receive medical treatment at home that could otherwise require hospitalization or a step down facility thanks to Quro Medical at Home feature. A team of dedicated clinic professionals treat and monitor patients on a daily basis. This is typically over the course of three to five days.

With the Covid -19 Pandemic, there has been a strain on traditional hospitals. Quro Medical’s remote monitoring feature has been instrumental in assisting patients stay and recover from home. This prevents the risks added from the hospital visits. The load on medical workers has also been reduced as less patients visit hospitals.
