Apple’s new tracking device can help you find your car keys.
Apple took a long time for this, but it is finally here. I am talking about the new Apple AirTags. If you have been hearing about AirTags for a long time, well and good.
But, in case, this is the first time you are hearing about them, we have got you covered. The Apple AirTags are like Tiles that you put on any item you are most likely to lose or misplace, such as your bag or car keys, and then you will be able to track these items when you cannot find them normally.
On its website, Apple has termed AirTags as “a supereasy way to keep track of your stuff.” AirTags is Apple’s answer to Tile and the latest Samsung Galaxy SmartTag, and it works with both iOS and Android phones. Of course, if you have an iPhone, the AirTags will work the best. This will be possible with the help of the Find My app on your Apple device, which has been improved to accommodate the new tracking system. This update is not available yet, but Apple has said it will roll out as a part of iOS 14.5 next week.
How do Apple AirTags work?
It is very simple. You attach an AirTag to an item or slip one into a bag that you are most likely to misplace. So now, when you cannot find this item, you just go to the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch to find it. You can also ask Siri to locate this item. Just ask, “Hey Siri, where is my wallet?” AirTags make a sound so that it becomes easy for you to locate the item.
Under the hood, AirTags send out a Bluetooth signal that your iPhone or Apple Watch can spot through nearby devices. The location of the AirTag is relayed to your iCloud account that is signed in to across your Apple devices. Since you have the location in your iCloud account, the Find My app tells you immediately where the AirTag is and along with it the product that you kept with it. The entire process, Apple says, is encrypted and anonymous, which means your location is not shared with anyone else. Since this entire process uses low-energy Bluetooth, you do not have to worry about the battery life or data consumption on your AirTag or iPhone.
