Google releases third Android 12 developer preview

Google has today released its third and final developer preview for Android 12 a head of the first Beta release next month. Google is set to release the final version of Android 12 later this year after a series of previews that have been running since February this year.

The third developer preview is an incremental update of the first and second developer previews which were majorly early baseline builds that ere focused on developer feedback with new features, APIs and behavior and behavior changes. It pegs more on the stability and performance of Android 12.

Noting from the Android developer website, preview three is a milestone on the final stages of of Android 12 release and very few changes are to be expected.

In the release, Google says, Android 12 includes a milestone called “Platform Stability” to help you plan your final testing and releases. This milestone means that Android 12 has reached final internal and external APIs, final app-facing behaviors, and final non-SDK API greylists.

Google anticipates Android 12 to reach Platform Stability at Beta 4 in August 2021 that will then determine its final release.

This release also allows developers to get more out of a smartphone camera and haptic hardware where google is providing feedback option on gaming, productivity and UI events and more stable builds.

It also introduces camera support including ultra high-resolution camera sensors, tweaks on the app launch experience including a call notification template. Incoming calls will have more visibility and scan-ability and improve their consistency with other notification settings.

Google says, The Android 12 Developer Preview program includes everything you need to test your existing apps on a variety of screen sizes, network technologies, CPU/GPU chipsets, and hardware architectures.

The third developer also comes new permissions for improved web linking, faster machine learning, exact alarms and system images for variety of Pixel devices.

Google further notes that, the APIs will not be official until the final SDK is released at platform stability as there could be API Changes over time during the remaining previews which Google intends to release in pre-determined preview stages .The latest Beta release is set for May that comprises of compatibility testing, feedback review from the Android Beta users and many more features.
