OceanHub Africa accelerator Selects 6 Startups for the 2021 Cohort

OceanHub Africa the social community startup for Ocean Space has selected 6 entrepreneurs and their ventures as the second cohort of companies to be supported through their acceleration programmes.

Entrepreneurs from Nigeria, Tanzania, Namibia and south Africa have been selected from among 130 applicants across 24 African countries.

The 6 ventures that made it to the programme include Venture Arena a recycling company from Tanzania, founded by Ailars David ,South African wind turbines performance and reality venture Brayfoil Technologies,founded by CEO Mathew Bray, Nigerian community circular economy venture Givo co-founded by Victor Boyle Komolafe,Namibian sustainable fish products venture Green Ocean Namibia founded by Eva Shitaatala,Tanzanian biopesticide venture plant Biofenders founded by Never Mwambela Zekaya and finally,Nigerian recyclables for healthcare venture Soso care co-founded by Nonso Opurum.

These entrepreneurs will be supported for a period of 6 months by the accelerator team ,mentors and partners to grow their business and  in terms of product development, access to business ,engineering and scientific expertise and access to market leads and support on the fundraising journey, from pitching to structuring deals from ocean hub Africa’s extensive network of international impact investors

During the programme, the entrepreneurs will have access to hands-on services from ocean Hub Africa corporate partners for instance, cloud and information technology services, engineering and software suite for prototyping and testing, legal counselling, internet of all Things and Artificial Intelligence development support and communication and marketing services.

For OceanHub, the development of the blue economy is an immensely important first step towards creating sustainable development pathways and this is what the company strives to achieve when scouting for entrepreneurs. And that Africa offers a particular high potential in terms of blue economy developments, paving the way to ocean community-based resource management and offering an ideal ground to test and scale impact innovation.

The ocean economy in Africa covers an area three times the size of its landmass and is perceived as a major contributor to continental transformation and growth of industries for example fisheries and aquaculture, marine renewables and biotechnologies, boat building and shipping, coastal tourism and ocean sports.

OceanHub Africa is ocean-impact catalyzer based in Cape town accelerating African Ocean Minded startups and fostering a like minded ecosystem. Inspiring more entrepreneurs to join the movement and find solutions sustaining livelihood while fixing threats to our marine ecosystem.

It was founded in 2019 by  co-founders Alexis Grosskopf and Stephane Canac in Cape town South Africa.
