Do you want to start selling LPG gas? Here’s what you need to know.

Anyone wishing to engage in the wholesale of LPG will be required to obtain a license from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority under the new regulations.

  • You must obtain a business license from the appropriate county government.
  • You’ll need a fire certificate, which proves that the retail location has been fire-tested. This certificate can be obtained from county government offices.
  • Safety assessment report – Evidence that the retail site has undergone a safety assessment by individuals registered with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services.
  • Certificate of Workplace Registration issued by the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services.
  • Gas cylinders, whether empty or filled, should be stored in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors, in a secure cage.
  • Display “No smoking” signs and keep fire extinguishers in place that are serviced regularly.
  • Have a calibrated/standardized weighing scale that is in good working order.
  • Filled LPG cylinders should only be purchased from Energy Regulatory Commission-licensed wholesalers.
  • Get a supply agreement from a licensed distributor.
  • Keep track of the serial numbers of each cylinder you receive and distribute.
  • Before distributing, perform a physical inspection of the cylinders, such as checking the paint, foot ring, and valve.
