Uber Ghana partners with Moove to empower drivers to own vehicles

Uber Ghana has partnered with Moove, Africa’s first flexible car ownership company with a bid to offer prospective and current Uber drivers in sub-Saharan Africa long term access to vehicles.

The partnership will see drivers on the Uber platform gain access to brand new Volkswagen Polo, among other models for either Flexi Car Weekly Rental or Drive to Own deals, as well as zero deposit, free maintenance, fuel, smartphone allowance and free insurance.

Moove Ghana’s Country Manager, Mr Jephthah Datsomor, said: “We have been working with Uber to develop strategies to help drivers manage their financial operating costs. We are excited to support drivers across Africa, including Ghana, to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods within a shorter time frame, especially as mobility returns to cities across the continent.”

The move brings in low-barrier entry methods into the Uber app because it offers improved pricing models for car ownership through solutions like flexible rental and drive to own options.

The multiple ownership methods are designed to suit drivers with diverse budgets and goals, thus empowering drivers who could not afford or finance their own vehicles become owners.

The flexi-rental option gives short-term vehicle access, ranging from a period of one to four weeks, while drive-to-own options are available to drivers within 24, 36, and 48-month agreements respectively.

Moove’s partnership with Uber across sub-Saharan Africa will provide riders with access to newer car models when they request a ride.

Moove and Uber had earlier launched in Nigeria and South Africa, and now have extended to Ghana. This collaboration confirms Uber’s commitment to Ghana and Africa as a whole, by providing enhanced earning potential and better mobility for all.
