Honor 50, 50 Pro, and 50 SE official: the Google apps return!

The Honor 50 series made its debut in China yesterday. It includes three devices: the standard model, the Honor 50 Pro positioned above it, and the affordable Honor 50 SE. However, the most welcome news is that long-missing Google services such as the Play Store are returning.

As The Verge reports, the manufacturer said the following about this today: “Honor devices … will have the option of pre-installed Google Mobile Services (GMS)… Users will be able to experience Honor smartphones and tablets with Google services.”In addition, a company spokesman confirmed afterward that the Honor 50 would be among the devices addressed. So the spin-off of Huawei seems to be paying off for Honor. And now back to the new smartphones

Honor 50 Pro: the top model

The model series is led by the Honor 50 Pro, which is not a real flagship. Because it lacks the appropriate drive. The installed Snapdragon 778G comes, namely “only” from the upper-middle class. It should still be strong enough for most application scenarios.

The rounded OLED display is 6,72 inches, resolves in FHD+, offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and houses a fingerprint sensor. The battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh and can be charged with an impressive 100 watts. In just 25 minutes, the Honor 50 Pro should be back in full juice.

Another possible highlight is the quad-camera built as follows:

  • 108 MP primary lens (1/1. 52 sensors, 9-in-1 pixel binning, f / 1.9)
  • 8 MP Ultra wide-angle
  • 2 MP Depth Sensor
  • 2 MP Macro lens

Something sobering about this is the missing telephoto lens. So you have to do without optical zoom. From the primary lens, however, we expect a lot. On the front of the Honor 50 Pro is a 32 MP dual camera, which includes a 12 MP lens specialized in the video.

Honor 50 and Honor 50 SE

The standard model has a lot in common with the Honor 50 Pro, including the chipset and all camera lenses on the back and the 32 MP lens on the front. You have to do without the second front lens and the 100-watt fast charging. The Honor 50 can still be charged very quickly: The 4300 mAh strong battery is charged with 66 watts, so still much quicker than almost all other smartphones. Another difference from the Pro model is that the otherwise identical OLED display measures “only” 6.57 inches in diagonal inches.

The Honor 50 SE, in turn, is relatively different from its siblings. Here you also get a 120 Hz display (6.78 inches), but only with LCD technology. As a chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G is used. And the camera includes only three lenses:

  • 108 MP Main Lens
  • 8 MP Ultra wide-angle
  • 2 MP Macro

The primary lens is the same as in the more expensive models. For selfies, on the other hand, a 16 MP front camera is available. The battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh and can be charged with 66 watts. The fingerprint sensor is installed on the side.

Common to all devices is the operating system Android 11, above which is the user interface Magic UI 4.2. Pre-sales for the Honor 50 (from 350 euros) and Honor 50 Pro (from 477 euros) will start in China on June 25. The Honor 50 SE will be available there from July 2 (from 310 euros). Note that the prices are not one to one transferable to the German market, and the devices will certainly be more expensive with us. It is still unclear when the German release will take place.
