Hey, Xiaomi: This ingenious notebook can we have in Kenya too?

Xiaomi does not only offer smartphones: the Chinese manufacturer is a real jack of all trades and has a wide range of products on offer – including notebooks. The Mi Notebook Pro X has now made its debut and offers top-class equipment for comparatively little money. However, Kenyan customers are left empty-handed. Why?

In addition to smartphones, e-scooters, fitness trackers, and even pots, Xiaomi is also present in the notebook market. The latest notebook of the electronics group listens to the name Mi Notebook Pro X and has now been presented. It should be available in the Chinese domestic market as early as July.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro X with OLED display, strong Intel processors, and Nvidia graphics

Externally, the Mi Notebook Pro X is based on previous Xiaomi notebooks and thus continues the design language reduced to the essentials. Under the hood, however, Xiaomi lets it crash and installs hardware that belongs to the crème de la crème. This includes above all the OLED display, which comes to a diagonal of 15.6 inches and resolves with 3,456 x 2,160 pixels. The refresh rate is 60 Hz, the maximum brightness is given as 600 nits. Important for photographers, for example, The screen covers 100 percent of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color space. Gorilla Glass protects the display, Android Authority reports, citing Weibo.

Buyers have the choice between two processors from Intel’s new Tiger Lake generation: Once the Core i7-11370H with up to 4.8 GHz is available, once the Core i5-11300H with up to 4.4 GHz. In both trim levels, the Nvidia RTX 3050Ti is also included. The i7 model has 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The model with the i5 comes with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. Other features include a USB-C port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB-A slots, an HDMI 2.1 port, WLAN 6, and Bluetooth 5.2. The speakers of the Xiaomi laptop support DTS audio and have a fine-tuning of Harman. The Mi Notebook Pro X has an 80-watt battery on board.

Will Xiaomi also launch the laptop outside of China?

From July 9, the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro X will be available in the colour Space Gray in China. Prices start at the equivalent of around KES 133,004 for the i5 model and go up to 166,255 KSH for the variant with the Core i7. Whether Xiaomi will also launch the laptop outside of China is unknown, but it would be desirable, given the excellent price-performance ratio.
