UofCanada and DMZ have launched an incubator program for scalable Cairo-based startups.

Universities of Canada in Egypt (UofCanada) and Ryerson University’s DMZ have launched a new incubator program in Cairo aimed at supporting scalable startups and sparking a new wave of innovation.

The DMZ Cairo sector-agnostic incubator will help high-potential tech startups in Egypt’s capital grow by providing fully-furnished workspaces, one-on-one mentorship from dedicated program leads and mentors, peer-to-peer sessions, expert-led workshops, and networking opportunities.

Earlier this year, Ryerson University and UofCanada teamed to open a campus in Cairo, providing students in the region access to top-tier programming and global learning experiences. This aim of promoting an entrepreneurial and inventive environment through experiential learning, state-of-the-art facilities, and cutting-edge technology is being realized with the introduction of an incubator.

“The DMZ has a proven incubation model, as evidenced by the 500+ alumni startups that have raised over US$1.24 billion dollars in only 10 years,” said Hadia H. Abdel Aziz, vice president at Universities of Canada in Egypt. “We are confident that DMZ’s presence in Egypt will greatly contribute to the development of the Egyptian entrepreneurship ecosystem, especially in supporting globally oriented tech startups.”

While DMZ Cairo is based at UofCanada’s campus, participants are not required to be current students or linked with the university. Any entrepreneur who fits the eligibility requirements is invited to apply by September 9th.
