How do you disable WhatsApp notifications without deleting the app?
Despite the long-drawn conversation around WhatsApp’s privacy, a large number of people continue using it. And even though it seems like an indispensable part of our lives at times, one can’t help but feel like shutting off the world through constant notifications. Fortunately, WhatsApp users can follow some tips to ease their headache of persistent notifications, without having to delete the app. Although deleting is the way to go if you don’t want to be done with having conversations on the app altogether. But wanting to partially silence notifications can be done by tweaking your phone settings and sometimes the settings on the app.
Users can also delete the WhatsApp shortcut in front of their home screen which will prevent them from seeing alerts unless they open the main app page. They will only receive message notifications when they choose to. Users can also specifically turn off mobile data for WhatsApp by heading over to your phone settings and by disabling Background Data and revoking all app permissions for WhatsApp so that they do not receive any messages on the app unless you reverse the settings. This will, however, work for only Android users. Further, if you want the sender to stop receiving double ticks, you can force stop the app by going to phone settings > Apps> select WhatsApp and click on Force Stop.
Android users can go to Phone Settings to customise notifications:

— Select Notifications > Manage Notifications
— Select WhatsApp app
— Depending on the requirement, users can either completely turn their notifications off or selectively turn off the top preview and display notification details on the unlocked screen.
— Users can also select if they want to receive notifications for sending media, call notifications, critical app alerts, etc.
— Users can also go to message notifications and turn the toggle off for pop-up or sound notifications.
Enabling this will prevent any and all pop-up notifications from showing up on your screen. The app icon might show unchecked messages. However, this will not affect you unless you go to the app to check for new messages. Users can also turn the notification light off for WhatsApp by going to Settings on WhatsApp. First, go to Notifications, pick Light and then select ‘None’.
