OPPO Watch 2 Announced, Faster but Still Battery-Efficient

OPPO has just announced the OPPO Watch 2, the successor to its first smartwatch released last year. Although it doesn’t look much different in terms of design, OPPO Watch 2 brings several significant updates.

The main one is the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset. When referring to Qualcomm’s claims, this chipset offers up to 85% improvement in processor performance compared to the previous generation Wear 3100. The graphics performance is also claimed to be 2.5x faster, but at the same time, the power consumption is 25% lower thanks to a more advanced manufacturing process (12 nm).

The chipset is accompanied by a custom co-processor Apollo4s collaboration oppo with Ambiq. This dual chipset mechanism was also previously applied to the first-generation OPPO Watch and the secret behind its long battery life. For OPPO Watch 2, OPPO claims up to 4 days of battery life on each charge or up to 16 days if the user activates the Power Saver feature.

As we expect from OPPO, this smartwatch is also equipped with fast charging technology that is very fast. According to OPPO, 10 minutes of charging alone is enough to charge the device for one day, while to charge from empty to full takes only 60 minutes.

Like its predecessor, OPPO Watch 2 also comes in two size variants: 42 mm and 46 mm. The 42 mm variant comes with a 1.75-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 372 x 430 pixels, while the 46 mm variant with a 1.91-inch AMOLED screen is 402 x 430 pixels resolution. In addition to the touchscreen, two buttons on the right side will assist with the operation. Overall, it is physically waterproof to a depth of 50 meters.

In terms of features, OPPO Watch 2 offers heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring, sleep analysis, stress monitoring, and more. In total, 100 different sports can be recognized, and the device is equipped with its GPS chip, so there is no need to continue relying on smartphones.

OPPO Watch 2 runs the ColorOS operating system, but this should only apply to versions sold in China only. If you follow its predecessor’s footsteps, the international version should be running the Wear OS operating system. So far, OPPO has not mentioned the sale of OPPO Watch 2 in other countries. It could be that they deliberately waited until Google officially launched Wear OS 3.
