Everything about the Huawei P50 and P50 Pro officialized in China

The Chinese manufacturer Huawei recently formalized the upcoming release of the P50 and P50 Pro in China, without details for the rest of the world.

Without 5G and Google – still because of the American sanctions – but with beautiful technical datasheets, Huawei’s next two flagships are scheduled for release from August, several months after the regular dates.

HarmonyOS, Snapdragon 888, 4G

If there is one point that can prevent Huawei’s new smartphones from making their place outside the Chinese market, it is the prohibition for the company to use Google services, and in the first place Android. Still sanctioned by the decision of the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, the Chinese brand continues to survive without the American giant and will therefore have to rely on its in-house operating system, HarmonyOS.

The two smartphones, the P50 and P50 Pro will also take advantage of the Snapdragon 888, the latest addition to high-end mobile processors. But this is only the case for some models since Huawei has also chosen to decline the P50 Pro in a version using the Huawei Kirin 9000 processor.

In any case, Qualcomm Snapdragon or Huawei Kirin processor, these brand new P50 and P50 Pro will only be able to offer mobile connectivity in 4G and not in 5G. The fault, once again, to the American restrictions.

The P50 Pro, an even more high-end alternative

For the rest of the features, the two models P50 and P50 Pro, offer some differences. The Pro version of the smartphone has some slightly more exciting features; this is the case, for example, of the screen. If the first model benefits from a screen of 6.5 inches in 1224p and clocked at 90 Hz, the second is entitled to something a little better, with a diagonal of 6.6 inches, a resolution of 1226p, and especially a cadence of 120 Hz.

In addition, the battery is 4100 mAh on the P50, 4360 mAh on the P50 Pro, and only the second can be charged wirelessly to 50W. Both models, however, benefit from fast wired charging at 66W. As for differences in power and storage, the P50 sees its RAM capped at 8 GB, with 128 or 256 GB of storage, while the P50 Pro is available in 8 or 12 GB of RAM, its storage ranging from 128 to 512 GB.

Very photo-oriented models

The P50 and P50 Pro make, like many other smartphones in our time, the place to the photo. The most miniature model has three lenses: the primary 50MP, a 12MP telephoto lens with x5 optical zoom (up to x50 in digital), and, finally, a 13MP ultra-wide. The Pro meanwhile has an additional lens: the central and ultra-wide do not change, but the telephoto lens here goes up to 64MP with an optical zoom x3.5 (allowing to go up to x100 in digital). The main difference with the P50 lies in the addition of a monochrome 40MP lens. Both are entitled to a 13MP front camera.
