How to Setup Two-Factor Authentication on YouTube.

Google makes advanced security simple to use with smartphone prompts, and several other methods, including a list of backup codes, are available.

Google will soon change the login requirements for those who access YouTube Studio,

which means it’s time for channel creators to learn what two-factor authentication (2FA) is and how to set it up. Google’s popular video-sharing website is home to hundreds of thousands of professional video creators as well as a large number of casual users who upload regularly. Google eventually wants to mandate that everyone use more secure logins, so learning how to set up and use this feature will be beneficial to everyone.

Anyone with a Google account can use YouTube in a web browser or an app to upload personal videos, and only the standard content management tools are required. Videos can be listed publicly or privately, and Google handles all of the details such as converting to different resolutions and optimizing for the best view experience and minimum wait times. Professional video creators who upload multiple long-format videos per day frequently use YouTube Studio because it gives them more control over their content and gives them access to extra data that helps them analyze what works best.

In a recent tweet, the official YouTube Twitter account announced that two-step verification, also known as 2FA, will be required for those who use YouTube Studio by November 1, 2021. YouTube Studio is the YouTube backend where creators can manage their videos, view revenue data, and browse other analytics. Google strongly recommends this enhanced account security for everyone, whether or not they use YouTube Studio, and because many people have a massive library of videos, photos, and passwords tied to their Google account, keeping it as safe as possible is worth the effort.Prompts are the best way to set up 2FA, and if this is chosen, Google will send a notification to any Android device that is logged into the user’s account, as well as any iPhone that has Gmail or the Google app installed. After you’ve configured this, whenever and wherever login verification is required, the user can simply check their phone and tap the alert to confirm it was their identity.

Alternate Google Authentication Methods

A physical security key that serves the same purpose as a phone for verification can be purchased. Google Authenticator and other apps that generate time-based one-time verification codes aren’t as secure as a phone or physical key, but they’re still quite reliable. Google can also call or text a smartphone, though this is the least secure method. Finally, a list of backup codes can be printed and safely stored away for emergency use if the phone or key is lost, damaged, or loses power, and immediate access to the account is required. When configuring 2FA in a Google account, any of these options can be selected.
