The ARM chips are expected to be first dispatched in 2023 on the next generations of tablets and Chromebooks utilizing Chrome OS.
This year in August, the Californian giant gave us a glimpse of its first SoC for thy smartphones. Named Tensor, this processor was developed in partnership with Samsung and is expected to be seen on the Pixel 6 Pro and the Pixel 6. The mountain view firm seems not to be slowing down even a little bit.
Google on its following Chips but not for its smartphones
As per Nikkei Asia’s words, he describes the processors as having cross-checked the information from three different sources. Google is currently busy developing its ARM chips for tablets and laptops utilizing the chrome OS. However, devices using this SoC would wait until 2023
Currently, Chrome OS is present on Chromebooks produced by Dell, Acer, HP, Asus, Samsung, and Lenovo. Google also launched its Pixelbook laptop and Pixelslate tablet. Most of these devices use x86 processors from Intel or AMD, but models have ARM SoCs from MediaTek and Qualcomm.
Offering your chips is an expensive long-term strategy, but it also brings many benefits. Nikkei Asia reports Eric Tseng, the chief analyst at Isaiah Research :
“All tech giants are embarking on the development of their custom chips because they can program their functions in these chips to meet their specific needs. In this case, these companies could easily adjust R&D workloads without being limited by their suppliers and offer unique services or technologies. In an ideal scenario, using your chips also means better software and hardware integration.”
A question of whether Apple is Inspiring Google
Two people who have vast information on the subject spoke to Nikkei Asia that Apple’s success in producing their processors encouraged Google. Back in 2010, the Cupertino tech giant dispatched its chips for the iPad and the iPhone.Eleven years later, it is working on its ARM apple silicon processors for the Macs.
