Plus, with the added help of some plug-ins, your Netflix experience can be more enjoyable than ever before.

There are plenty of things you probably never realized you could do while using Netflix. There are so many tricks and hacks that your movie experience is bound to become even better than it was before once you gain a bit of insight.

1. Use Less Or More Data By Adjusting The Quality

If you want to save data while watching Netflix on your phone, or see things in high definition while watching on your computer, you can mess with those setting within your account.

Head over to your Netflix account page. From there, click on “Playback Settings.” This will lead you to a page that gives you options for data usage per screen. When you first get there, it should be set on “Auto” which says it provides you with “default video quality and data usage.”

There are other manual options though including “Low” which has “basic video quality up to 0.3 GB per hour,” “Medium” which has “standard video quality up to 0.7 GB per hour,” and “High” which is the “best video quality up to 3 GB per hour for HD, 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD.” There are obviously plenty of options to suit your Netflix needs.

2. Download Movies And TV Shows To Watch When You’re Not Online

In the app, there should be a download symbol next to the movie or show you want to download. Not everything in Netflix is downloadable, but it seems like all original series and films are available for this feature.

It’s pretty basic and simple. If the show or movie you download is no longer available through Netflix after you have downloaded it, the download will also disappear, so don’t try to hoard everything since it’s pointless to do so. Additionally, there is, unfortunately, a time limit on downloaded content.

3. Use Keyboard Keys to Fast Forward and Rewind

All you have to do in order to rewind is press shift and then the arrow pointing towards the left. If you want to fast forward, you can also press shift and then the arrow pointing towards the right.

There are other options too. The most common one that people know is pressing space to pause or play. There is also pressing the F key to go to full screen and pressing the up and down arrows in order to change the volume.

4. Change The “Maturity” Level On An Individual Account

Under the “Manage Profiles” page, you’ll be able to click on one specific user and change their maturity settings. The options include for little kids only, for older kids and below, for teens and below, and all maturity levels. Click which one you want for that specific user and you’ll be set.

4. Randomize Your Streaming Choices

Have you ever spent more time trying to figure out what you’re going to watch next than actually watching a television show or movie? It’s okay because most people have done the exact same thing. Thanks to another brilliant extension, though, you don’t have to worry about making such hard decisions anymore.

There are external extensions that allow you to essentially play “Netflix Roulette” when it comes to your streaming choices. So, once a television show or movie ends, you won’t have to worry about figuring out what to put on next. Instead, the extension will do it for you.

5. Never Be Questioned About Your Entertainment Choices Again

Thankfully, there are external extensions you can add to your computer to make that pesky and judgmental “Are you still watching?” question disappear after you get through two episodes of your show. These apps can also get rid of that countdown to the next episode that always appears at the corner of your screen once an episode has ended. Since these are external extensions, they can only be used when watching Netflix on your computer versus through another device.

6. Change How The Subtitles Look

Most people believe that the subtitles are fine the way they are. Netflix does have a pretty decent handle on how their subtitles work. However, not everyone sees things the same way. It’s a good thing that Netflix realizes this. The streaming service actually gives users the option to change how the subtitles look on screen.

When looking at your account information, you’ll see a button underneath your “My Profile” that says “Subtitle Appearance.” Click on that and from there, you’ll be able to change the subtitle font, size, shadow, and colour.

7. Stop The Next Episode From Automatically Playing

Netflix has also been doing this thing lately where it auto-plays to another show once your show is over. Do you really want to switch over from Gilmore Girls to What the Health? without your permission first? It seems doubtful.

In order to disable the auto-play feature, you’ll need to look for “Playback Settings” under the “My Profile” section of your account. From there, find where it says “Auto-Play” and then you should see the “Play Next Episode Automatically” box. Uncheck that box and you’ll be good to go.

8. Request A Show Or Movie

Yes, Netflix has tons and tons of options, but there are still some pretty major movies and shows that they don’t have access to. Thankfully, Netflix has a request form that you can fill out in the help centre.
