DiDi ride app launches transportation services in Alexandria.

DiDi Chuxing, a Chinese transportation company, has launched operations in Egypt, beginning with the governorate of Alexandria.

The company’s “Wasalny” and “Wasalny +” services will contest with Uber in the local market. DiDi also provides transportation services in 17 other countries, with Egypt ranking second on the continent behind South Africa.

Moanis Amin, the head of DiDI’s Government Relations in North Africa and the Middle East, said that his company plans to enter the market from Alexandria because it is smaller than Cairo and thus can gain valuable experience before launching in the capital, which he expects to happen before the end of the year.

By launching its services in Alexandria with attractive offers that benefit both passengers and drivers, DiDi intends to be at the forefront of smart mobility services in the region’s marketplaces.

The DiDi platform will commemorate the commencement of its operation in Egypt with special incentives, assuring its users that they will be able to travel safely and affordably without incurring additional costs, and that it would assist captains in achieving higher profits and a safer experience.

For his part, Felipe Contreras, DiDi’s head of international expansion communications and public relations, announced a proposal to expand services to the New Administrative Capital by renting electric bikes in addition to the regular delivery service via automobiles.

Despite the fact that it was founded in 2012, the company was able to purchase Uber in China in 2016.

In response to Uber’s competition in Egypt, Contreras stated that Egypt is a vast and promising market, and that expanding it and delivering additional services is contingent on the actual market needs as well as gaining expertise in dealing with it.

He explained that his company will offer electric cars specially designed for DiDi by the Chinese company BYD, as long as they are released in the Egyptian market with the intention of selling to individuals who wish to participate in the company’s service provision or for private purchase.
