Comparison of the finest PC cleaning software

If your PC is slow to start, has insufficient disk space, or takes an excessive amount of time to run the software, it may be time to clean it out. Let’s face it, the market for cleaning software for Windows is very crowded, but that doesn’t mean you have to go with the first option. We compared five of them to assist you in making your decision. Here’s what we came up with.

Cleanmgr+

Built by Bel’s Cleanmgr+ is a portable, lightweight, open-source tool that deserves more recognition. The software automates the execution of different system cleanup tasks and is designed to centralize Windows-native utilities.

Less-skilled users no longer need to use the command prompt, and the nearly sole use of Windows’ maintenance solutions protects the PC from catastrophic problems caused by the loss of critical components. We could quickly identify several interface flaws that make it take a little longer to get started than the competitors, but nothing that prohibits us from getting good results.

Finally, it is essential to discuss Cleanmgr+’s support for third-party scripts. This option is intended for a more knowledgeable audience since it allows the program to adapt to each user’s specific needs, frequency, and kind of maintenance. On the project’s GitHub website, community-edited scripts are accessible, but nothing prohibits you from importing your instructions.

CleanMyPC

MacPaw, which specializes in creating macOS apps, has dropped its CleanMyMac program for Windows in favour of CleanMyPC. CleanMyPC has been able to persuade the general public of its effectiveness for several years. The majority of the cleaning products may be eliminated without causing harm to the system, but this does not mean that you should get rid of everything without first checking.

CleanMyPC’s most significant benefit is unquestionably its ease of use. The cleaning wizard guides users unfamiliar with system components, and it is simple to receive information about the locations and sorts of files to be purged. Whether scanning or removing things from the hard disk, the software is quick to use and does not consume many resources.

On the other hand, the system’s real-time tracking agent must be used. The user is forced to utilize the module, which begins immediately when the computer boots up and operates in the background. There is no other option than manually deactivating it in the Services manager or the Windows administrative tools.

PrivaZer

It is critical to understand how the system works to avoid doing anything that might cause the computer to crash short or long term. Point check: the manual construction of a restore point using Windows’ tools; our experience has proven that the software’s built-in option isn’t entirely effective (partial backup, restore errors, irretrievable loss of files).

PrivaZer checks all categories by default, which initiates a full system scan. The procedure takes a long time and consumes many resources. Still, it works: nothing appears to escape the application’s perfectionism as it searches for leftovers that may pollute the hard disk’s free sectors. It is strongly advised to leave the Registry out of the cleaning procedure as a precaution. BDR is tainted, and tragedy is on the horizon.

CCleaner

CCleaner is the first option that comes to mind when a disk cleanup is needed, thanks to its renown. With its twenty years of expertise, one may assume that the program knows the key to unrivalled performance in terms of scan quality and disk space possibly recovered. CCleaner began as a disk cleaning but has since evolved into a system optimizer. Multiple uninstallations of programs, management of starting apps and browser extensions, upgrading software installed on the PC, evaluating disk space usage, identifying and deleting duplicates, and restoring the system are examples of this. A collection of features that Windows incorporates natively, showing CCleaner’s somewhat gimmicky nature.

Especially because CCleaner isn’t precisely exceptional as a system optimizer. When the application is launched, it runs two processes in parallel. It rotates in the background without notice when closed. Finally, it integrates the list of startup apps automatically, cutting down the OS’s loading.

Wise Disk Cleaner

Wise Disk Cleaner appears to be one of the best solutions for anyone seeking a quick and easy cleaning option. Its simple interface appeals to inexperienced users, and the results achieved in our test beat CCleaner and CleanMyPC in terms of the number of files removed.

However, the analyses’ level of depth is puzzling since almost a third of the items judged superfluous by the software are required for the system’s correct operation (shared DLLs) and installed apps (installation files in the Windows Installer directory). As a result, it’s necessary to carefully go over the scan report and manually deselect critical files.

Finally, Wise Disk Cleaner has been chastised for pressuring users to clean their computers too regularly. The planning module, which is prominently displayed on the software’s home page, would advise that it is good to begin regular maintenance activities. However, as previously said, frequent cleanings increase the chance of critical data being lost and being unproductive and slowing down the PC.
