Microsoft has published an official guide for installing Windows 11 on unsupported pcs.

Microsoft has released a guide describing how to install Windows 11 on computers that do not meet the minimum requirements.

A section of a new tech support document titled “Ways to Install Windows 11” includes instructions on how to bypass the trusted platform module (TPM) 2.0, as well as CPU family and model checks, during the update process.

The workaround will allow systems with CPUs older than the Intel 8th generation or AMD 2000 series to install the OS as long as their motherboards support TPM version 1.2. Since 2011, the latter has been available in laptops and desktops.

The procedure entails editing a registry key, which can be accomplished with the free Windows application Registry Editor.

It should be noted that Microsoft does not recommend installing Windows 11 on devices that do not meet the minimum requirements.

It also warns that if you edit the registry incorrectly, serious problems may occur, so you do so at your own risk.

“These issues may necessitate a reinstall of the operating system.” “Microsoft does not guarantee that these issues will be resolved,” the company stated.

If your CPU is unsupported and you are willing to take the risk, you can bypass the check by doing the following:

• Press the Windows + R keys at the same time.
• In the box, type “Regedit.”
• Allow Registry Editor to make changes to your device by selecting “Yes” in the prompt.
• Select “File” and then “Export” to create a registry backup.
• Select “Save” after giving your backup a name.
• Next to the “HKEY LOCAL MACHINE” folder, click the right arrow.
• Next to the “SYSTEM” folder, click the right arrow.
• Next to the “Setup” folder, click the right arrow.
• Select the “MoSetup” folder.
• Right-click in the right-hand open space.
• Choose “New” and then “DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
• The value should be called “AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU.”
• Make the value data “1” and choose the “Hexadecimal” base.
• Close the Registry Editor window.

You should now be able to use the Windows 11 installation assistant, media creation tool, or ISO to upgrade to Windows 11.

If you want to keep your files, the Installation Assistant is the best option.

If a problem arises during this process, or if your system becomes unstable as a result of the changes, you can restore the registry backup by following these steps:

• Press the Windows + R keys at the same time.
• In the box, type “Regedit.”
• Allow Registry Editor to make changes to your device by selecting “Yes” in the prompt.
• Select “File” and then “Import.”
• Locate the backup file you made earlier and click “Open.”
• Start your computer again.
