iOS 15: Using Tags to Organize Your Notes.

Apple has added a much-requested feature to the Notes app in iOS 15: tags. This means that you can now include hashtags in your notes, which will help you organize them and find them more easily. Let’s take a look at how they function.

  • Launch the Notes app and either create a new note or choose an existing one.
  • Use the hash (#) symbol to add a tag anywhere in the note, followed by a word or phrase that identifies it for organizational purposes. Some examples include #cooking, #plants, #work, and #shopping, but it can be anything.
  • Repeat the preceding steps for any additional new or saved notes – the tags will be highlighted automatically to indicate that they are recognized.
  • Return to the main Folders overview screen, and then, in the new “Tags” section, tap a tag you created to see all the notes that contain that tag.

Tags can be a powerful way to organize your notes because there is no limit to how many you can have, and a single note can include multiple tags, allowing the same note to appear in multiple tagged categories that you’ve created. In addition, when you add a hash symbol to a note, iOS will suggest existing notes for you to select above the virtual keyboard.

Apple has also added a new Smart Folders option in iOS 15 that you can use to create a folder to house tags. Simply tap the folder icon in the lower-left corner of the Notes overview screen, then select New Smart Folder.
