Design: iPhone 12 photocopy

Oppo has a history of pursuing innovation as far as design is brought to the table. This can be seen in the Oppo Reno 5, which features a curved backside and corning Gorilla Glass 3 for the front part, and the Reno6 5 intends to fix some modifications of the previous model.

With the Reno6 5G, there are no questions of reality and expectations here. The manufacturer decided to mimic what Apple is doing for its iPhone’s smartphones, except Oppo’s ideas are unique and eye-pleasing. The device has the same orthogonal design as seen in the iPhone 12 precisely with the angles marking on its four corners & its diagonal lengths. Moving away from the iPhone smartphones, we have to congratulate Oppo for some clear distinctions. For example, viewing the smartphone from the front, we have a  discreet punch instead of the somewhat unexplainable notch seen on the iPhones and the flat screen shielded by a small black border. Under the screen, we also discover a fingerprint sensor that fosters security on your 5G smartphone.

Like the Oppo Reno 5, the manufacturer also decided to use the Reno Glow technology (composed of hundreds of nanolayers pressed together, making the device immune to fingerprints) on the 6 5G version. Depending on your viewing Point from the back of the phone, you must appreciate the fantastic reflections seen during a sunny day or in environments with enough light. Panda Glass 2 glass from the Chinese Tunghsu Group protects the backside, and for the front side, we have the classic Gorilla 5 screen from Yankee Corning.

Screen: It is more than Perfect

The manufacturer decided to play around with an AMOLED panel HDR10 certification for the screen department. With 6.43 inches as its diagonal length, the Oppo Reno6 5G plays around with the dimensions(156.8 x 72.1 x 7.6 mm), thus displaying 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. The screen has a 90Hz refresh rate, but it can be downgraded to 60Hz, depending on your needs. By default, the color setting takes the Vivid Mode, which limits the light from the screen from being a pain in our eyes. Still, there is the option “Gentle” that supports color management. The panel for this model from Oppo will allow one to use the device comfortably whether it is for Streaming your HD content, reading, or for any purposes because of its Good Quality, Responsiveness, and Accuracy that stands out.

Single audio: It is okay, but…

The Reno6 5G has a single speaker at the bottom of the device, which emits sound through a set of three holes near the USB-C connector. One-track audio can be found here, which is not that horrible because of its “somewhat” minor base nature. So um, to bring the best out of the device, you will have to consider the Type-C headphones included in the box and make sure that the Dolby Atmos feature is activated on your smartphone to bring the best listening experience. The built-in speaker is ideal for usage in places with no external sound disturbances but not in noisy habitats.

Performance: average

Compared to the 720 G Qualcomm chipset used in the Reno 5 series, the maker utilizes a Mediatek 900 Dimensity Soc (6nm Octa-core) for the Reno6 5G version. The Mali G68 GPU is in charge of graphics aspect management, and it’s backed up by 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and a 128 GB UFS 2.1 flash storage drive that’s unfortunately not expandable. Reno6 5G has a Geekbanch score of 2536 points(OpenCL score) in a tiny game of raw performance plus 728 single-Core-score and 2113 for Multi-Core-Score. It isn’t exceptional in any way, but it is in line with what one would expect from a mid-range smartphone. When we look at this result more closely, we can observe that the different components have pretty consistent performance. The Dimensity 900 is average in all areas and poor in none.

ColorOS 11.3: We Like it

This in-house OS takes the winning spirit of Android 12 that has many to offer in terms of functionalities more than you can imagine. One thing that makes it quickly stand out is making customizations easily, overall fluidity, and multitasking capabilities.

The Oppo Reno 6 5G precisely serves us with version 11.3 of Color that has incredible novelties. For example, Carousel displays for different Apps, Machine learning from taking a screenshot, and the silhouette portrait component for Photo customization. It is also within these Months that Oppo has promised to deliver ColorOS 12, whereby the 11.3 has so many features that make some of us curious about the next homemade OS.

Autonomy: 24 plus hours on use

The smartphone is fitted with a non-removable battery(Li-Po) of 4300 mAh capacity. Thanks to the 65W superfast charger using SuperVOOC 2.0 technology, the device would go right from 0 to 100% in just 28 minutes, according to the manufacturer. Still, on our side, during our test, the device would play around 30 minutes precisely.

Once at 100%, the gadget would go for at least 24hrs  for primary usage, i.e., Taking or making calls, surfing the web, Listening to Music, and so much more. Furthermore, to use the device for more than the mentioned hours, please consider downgrading your screen’s refresh rate to 60Hz and, at the same time, decrease the screen brightness. Generally speaking, this gadget is acceptable for whichever environment you want to play in as far as autonomy is put into consideration.

Camera

Um, for the Camera sensors, we discover  three modules at the back specifically:

  • 64 megapixel(f/1.7 25mm) main lens
  • 8 megapixel(f/2.2 15mm) ultra-wide-angle lens
  • 2megapixel (22mm f/2.4 22 mm) macro lens
  • For the selfie part, we have a 32-megapixel lens(f/2.5 28 mm)

During the day, I find the images taken on the Main Camera sensor to be very sharp except for some noise on the edges of the Pictures taken. You will have to be very keen to take notice of it. However, it is the ultra-wide-angle lens that never fails to impress at all costs. For example, after disabling the AI component and using then 2X zoom, the output of the image will prefer the original colors and minor details. Still, from 5x zoom, you will have to seriously not try using the lens due to a lack of precise information on the outputted image.

For the Macro part, the 2 Megapixel lens outputs somewhat exact images if and only if you are at a distance of 40mm away from the smartphone, but again you would have to Cooperate with the Low definition.

For the Night Mode

The images aren’t perfect when using the night mode. The loss of detail becomes evident. The photographs from the main module are still the most useful, as the damage from extreme wide-angle or zoom (10x max) is too considerable.

The Reno6  5G does a better job when it comes to video. The portrait pro video mode lets you generate a movie-like background blur in real-time, both with the back and front camera. To be convincing, Oppo advises against shooting only one human subject in good brightness, and this one must occupy at least 10% of the image surface.

Oppo Reno6 5G: What we Like

  • High-Quality Screen
  • Superfast charge
  • Autonomy
  • Designs
  • Video mode

Oppo Reno6 5G: What we hate

  • The Price is a bit expensive
  • Single speaker
  • No 5G mode, at least for now(Locally)

TechMoran Final Say about the Oppo Reno6 5G

The Oppo Reno6 5G offers something that we can’t find for many mid-rangers: exceptional craftsmanship, a high-quality screen, Super if not a high fast charging just like the Brands name itself. We have the ColorOS 11.3, an original in-house overlay of the Android 11 that speaks everything right from when you power on the device, Thanks to its simple fluidity.

We think the manufacturer messed up a little bit with the Soc in this gadget. It would be better to see the 800 Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm. Yet hold on, this does not mean that the 900 dimesnity processor stops the device from performing for its daily usage.

If you are into photography, Our best advice will be to use the smartphone in places with excellent lighting conditions because taking images in low light, the information generated in the photograph is less accurate, for the Video mode, there are no precise words to recognize it as it simply does what is supposed to do.
