Villgro Africa and Johnson & Johnson seek for startups that can empower frontline healthcare workers.

Villgro Africa, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Impact Ventures (JJIV) on behalf of the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, is launching a call for East African healthcare innovations and startups that improve access and quality of care while strengthening the capacity of frontline healthcare workers.

Community health workers, midwives, pharmacists, nurses, clinical officers, and doctors who serve in community clinics near people in need are the backbone of any effective health system, and they are often embedded in the community they serve.

They play an important role in integrating proven health solutions into a local context and connecting families and communities to the health system. They frequently take on tremendous personal risk, demonstrate resilience and creativity, and are rarely adequately appreciated for the work they do.

In areas such as training and capacity building, logistics and medical supplies, telehealth and telemedicine platforms, access to knowledge and information, and maternal and child health, Villgro Africa and JJIV are aiming to support solutions that empower these key workers.

The selected startup will receive $50,000 in seed capital, as well as technical assistance, investment readiness support, and networking opportunities. They will also have the opportunity to form key partnerships in both the public and private sectors, with potential to receive follow-on funding from JJIV.
