Samsung unveils the memory for our future devices, the LPDDR5X

Samsung has consistently been on the verge of moving tech or an actual inventor since a long time ago. The smartphone behemoth first and foremost, but it is also and above all an electronics behemoth. The company unveiled new generations of memory chips that will soon be found in our devices.

It’s not always necessary to wait for leaks to learn more about the features of the upcoming smartphone; instead, look at the present components. This is particularly true of Samsung Electronics, which supplies most of the elements in our cellphones, including its own. The first LPDDR5X chips are now available: a new type of ultra-low-power RAM that will soon be used in smartphones, tablets, and ultraportables.

Samsung has announced the production of the first 14 nm LPDDR5X chips with 2 GB of memory (Low Power Double Data Rate 5X). It’s difficult to avoid it: Samsung claims that this next generation will also find uses in 5G, AI, and the metaverse.

“In recent years, hyperconnected market areas like as AI augmented reality and metaverse, which require on high-speed large-scale data processing, have been quickly increasing,” Samsung adds to justify the inclusion of these buzzwords. To put it another way, to keep up with the pace at which information is processed, more and higher bit rates are required.

Samsung claims that their LPDDR5X memory has a bandwidth of 8.5 Gbit/s, 30% faster than LPDDR5, which has a bandwidth of 6.4 Gbit/s. The company also claims that their chip uses 20% less power than LPDDR5 memory, owing to a breakthrough 14 nm manufacturing process. Finally, Samsung claims that a 2 GB (16 GB) chip will allow for creating packages with up to 64 GB of RAM.

The chip’s mass manufacture is now the next phase. Before the end of the year, the brand is expected to begin manufacturing negotiations with chipmakers such as TSMC. It’s tough to say when the LPDDR5X will integrate our gadgets in this time of scarcity.
