How to Filter Tweets on Twitter by a User

Now and then, Twitter is the source of many breaking news stories — so many that many stories first break on Twitter. However, in addition to genuine news content, you may be inundated with tweets from the people you follow, but you may not want to see content from them every day, every time. Those who are familiar with how the app works will know that when you launch or refresh the app, Twitter first shows you preloaded tweets from earlier and then gives you the option to view newer ones.

When you refresh your timeline, you may miss a tweet from someone you follow because many others are more recent on your timeline. On such occasions, you may want to search for tweets from someone, and if you don’t want to scroll through a series of tweets indefinitely, there’s now a new way to filter tweets with specific keywords by a user ID.

In this post, we’ll show you how to filter tweets from someone to find a specific subject that they may have tweeted about.

How to Filter a User’s Tweets on Twitter

Twitter has begun to roll out an update to its mobile app that includes a new search option at the top of the screen when viewing someone’s profile on the platform. This option will assist you in filtering tweets from this person by allowing you to search for keywords in any of their tweets. The new feature can be used to search for tweets made by someone on a specific subject or to find old tweets from someone you know.

  • With the release of this feature, you can avoid using the app’s advanced search tool, which provided the same functionality but required you to type “from:” every time you wanted to find someone’s tweet.
  • Because this is a new feature for the Twitter for iOS app, make sure you have updated it via the App Store on your iPhone. To do so, open the App Store, tap on your account picture, and then, if available, tap on ‘Update’ next to the Twitter app. If it does not, it means that iOS has already updated the Twitter app to the most recent version.
  • You can access the new search tool inside the Twitter app by opening it now that you’re using the latest version on your iPhone. To find a tweet by someone, first, go to their profile by tapping on their account picture in your timeline.
  • If you can’t find their profile in your timeline, you can search for it by tapping on the Search icon in the bottom navigation bar.
  • When the Search screen appears, click the search box at the top of the screen.
  • Begin typing the name of the account from which you want to search tweets. When the search results appear, tap on the account whose tweets you want to see.
  • You will now be able to access the selected profile within the Twitter app. Tap the Search icon in the top right corner to filter relevant content about something from the selected profile.

Why can’t I find the Search button on a Twitter profile?

The new profile-specific search button is currently only available on the Twitter for iOS app, so iPhone users are the only ones who can use it. Once the platform begins rolling it out to other devices, we may see this search button appear on Android devices and Twitter’s web client.

If you can’t see the Search button inside a Twitter profile, it could be because:

  • You’re using the Twitter app for Android or the desktop web client.
  • Your iPhone’s Twitter for iOS app has not been updated.

If you are unable to use the most recent feature on your device, there is another way to search someone’s tweets. To begin, go to Twitter’s search field in the Android app or desktop client and type “from Twitter person’s handle> keyword you want to filter tweets with>”. For example, if you want to search Twitter for tweets about iOS 15 made by us, simply type “from TheAndroidSoul iOS 15.”

The functionality is nearly identical; the new search button makes it even easier.
