Mitsubishi debuts their first fully electric car, the Airtrek, with two tone design.

At the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show, Mitsubishi has revealed their first fully electric car, the Airtrek. If the name sounds familiar, it is the same one that was used for the Mitsubishi Outlander first generation between 2001 and 2008.

The Mitsubishi Airtrek SUV measures 4,600 mm (181 inches) in length, 1,910 mm (75.2 inches) in width, and 1,690 mm (66.5 inches) in height, making it 80 mm (3.1 inches) shorter but 50 mm (2 inches) wider than the Outlander.

Split headlight design

In line with the latest Mitsubishi vehicles like the new plug in hybrid Outlander, the Airtrek has a split headlight setup with the LED daytime running lights positioned at the very top of the bumper while the main headlight cluster is mounted below, shaped like a “7.” BMW is rumored to go with the same split headlight design with their upcoming X series SUVs as well.

If you look closely, you will spot a camera right under the Mitsubishi logo. As is currently the trend, the door handles pops out when you open the vehicle remotely.

The two-tone design is used nicely all over the vehicle: from a black roof and white body, to black and silver alloy wheels, and two-tone seats. The top also features a sunroof, presumably in the high end version.

Inside the SUV you will find a big screen for the infotainment, a standard feature for all electric vehicles nowadays. As expected, the screen hosts almost all car dash functions so knobs and buttons are very few. Augmented reality technology comes fitted in the digital cluster using the help of the numerous cameras around the car. A 360 degrees view mode is available as well, perfect for reversing out of tight spots and off-roading.

Weighing in at 1,900 kilograms (4,189 pounds), the Mitsubishi Airtrek is powered by a 69.9-kWh battery pack with enough juice for 520 kilometers (323 miles) in the local CLTC cycle. No official motor output figures were given but local Chinese media reports the Airtrek produces 181 horsepower (135 kilowatts).
