One of the worst transfers in the EPL history: Andriy Shevchenko

There have been many unsuccessful transfers in the history of the Premier League. However, the transfer of Andriy Shevchenko to Chelsea in 2006 is considered to be among the worst. By the way, it is always easy to follow soccer live scores of this team on the sports statistics website, where close attention is paid to all games of the Blues.

So, as for Shevchenko, it should be noted that he moved to Chelsea when he was almost 30. Nevertheless, just 1.5 years before that, the Ukrainian managed to win the Ballon d’Or and was rightfully included in the list of the best goal scorers of the Old Continent. Therefore, the fact that Chelsea paid 73 million euros for the transfer of the striker didn’t bother anyone.

The first matches for Chelsea were pretty good for Shevchenko. He managed to score a couple of goals, but then the Ukrainian had serious problems with adaptation. This was reflected in the live scores of soccer matches in which he took part. Andriy clearly lost the competition to Didier Drogba, and Jose Mourinho rarely used them on the field together.

Another reason for the failure of the Ukrainian was the fact that the owner of the club needed him more than the head coach did. Naturally, Mourinho didn’t give up on the forward of this class, but main hopes were on Drogba.

As a result, Shevchenko managed to score only 9 goals in 2 seasons in the Premier League. In total, he managed to score 22 times for Chelsea in all competitions. As you see, he performed somewhat more successfully in cup tournaments.

How did Shevchenko’s further career go?

For a long time, many thought that the Ukrainian had a temporary recession. However, in reality, the age was already taking its toll. He failed to fully realize his potential, which is confirmed by the team’s Premier league results.

He then tried to revive his career by returning to Milan on loan. However, during one year in Italy, Shevchenko scored only 2 goals. After that, the forward decided to return to his homeland. So, he spent another 3 seasons in his native Dynamo Kiev.

Of course, recent years of the Ukrainian’s career turned out to be ‘blurry’. However, in general, he has something to be proud of. This is evidenced by both individual and team achievements, for example:

  • winning the Ballon d’Or;
  • victory in the Champions League;
  • winning the Serie A and national cups.

You can follow Chelsea’s results in the Premier league, where Shevchenko didn’t fully realize his potential, on the website of sports statistics. It should be noted that here it is also possible to follow matches of the Serie A, where the Ukrainian has now returned to as the coach of Genoa.

Despite local setbacks in his career, he remains loved by the fans not only of Milan and Dynamo but also by all football fans from all over the world.
