Everything you need to know about Qualcomm’s new high-end SoC, Snapdragon 8 Gen1

Qualcomm unveiled its latest Processor during its annual Tech Summit yesterday. The Processor has been named Snapdragon 8 Gen1 instead of the Snapdragon 888 as many had hoped for. This new chipset is expected to power a large number of high-end Android devices in 2022. Several smartphone makers have already expressed interest in having the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 on their high-end models come the following year.

Unlike the previous Gen of Processor, which was carved in 5nm, the new SoC from Qualcomm takes advantage of the 4nm and enables a 20 percent boost in performance plus a 30 percent reduction in energy. This suggests that an 8-core CPU will  be utilized here backed by the following:

The potential download speed of the Snapdragon X65 will be enhanced from 7.5 Gb/s to 10 Gb/s, given that there will be no changes for the upload (3 Gb/s). The manufacturer also announced its new AI Engine, which it claims is four times quicker in image processing and voice assistants.

Moreover, the SoC features an 18-bit Image Signal Processor, which will allow 240 12-megapixel photographs to be taken every second. Qualcomm is also bringing the ability to shoot in 8K in HDR10+ and 4K with digitally produced background blur.
