Nigerian edtech startup Teesas secures $1.6M pre-seed round for expansion.

Teesas, a Nigerian Edtech platform that provides learners with video classes and other digital educational materials, has raised $1.6 million in a pre-seed round led by Haresh Aswani, Tolaram Group’s Africa managing director, with Olivegreen Advisory Partners, an Africa-focused venture studio, and other angel investors.

In 2022, the startup plans to launch a tutor marketplace and expand throughout East, Southern, and Francophone Africa with the new funding.

Teesas is Africa’s Learning Gateway for Higher Exam Grades with Tutorials from Africa’s Best Teachers, according to Osayi Izedonmwen, who launched it in November 2021. It provides high-quality video tutorials from Africa’s greatest teachers that explain key ideas in English and key local languages to help students understand them better.

Everyone who wants to study should be allowed to do so without any barriers, according to the company. Its goal is to remove the major roadblocks to tutor and student participation.

Teesas will add life-skill programs in the near future to prepare students for self-discovery. This is in addition to anti-bullying courses, which were prompted by reports of an uptick in bullying in Nigeria, some of which resulted in death.
