HealthLeap, a dietitian-focused healthcare startup, has raised $1,100,000 in a pre-seed round led by Fifty Years, a deep tech investor.

The pre-seed funding will be used by HealthLeap to hire software engineers and data scientists to continue developing smart tools to assist physicians in preventing and treating hospital malnutrition.

HealthLeap was founded on the pillars of clinical diets, software engineering, and product management, with the purpose of improving global health through proper nutrition.

HealthLeap is aiming to address the issue of inadequate response to malnutrition in Africa and beyond, and is developing AI-assisted tools to help healthcare professionals focus more on this aspect.

In April 2021, Jemima Meyer, Josiah Meyer, and Ray Botha founded HealthLeap, and together they developed NutriLeap, an AI-based healthcare assistant.

The company’s products and services include, among other things, determining precise energy, protein, and macro needs in one logical flow with automatic calculations and smart predictions, storing patient data behind secure encryption, and incorporating up-to-date clinical guidelines into decisions for each patient’s condition.

In a private beta programme, 50 dietitians are using the HealthLeap app, and there is a waiting list of nearly 1,000 dietitians, pharmacists, and physicians. Although the company’s goal is to eradicate starvation worldwide, it is now focusing on the United States. This is due to the new United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) standards, which open up new possibilities.
