What factors should you consider before buying a new smartphone in 2022?

It is finally time to have a new smartphone in your pocket. However, you are stuck on which mobile phone to go for because the market is vast, and there is a slew of many smartphone makers. In this article, we’ll go over some key characteristics to consider before making your decision and some pointers to assist you in choosing your desired brand’s smartphone.

Before heading out to any retail shop or giving your credentials on any online shopping website, you should take the time to analyze different markets by asking yourself mature questions. For example, how are you planning to use that smartphone? The answer to this question can range from storage purposes, Social media, or internet surfing to only making and receiving calls, etc. Remember that you can only arrive at proper answers if you ask yourself the most precise questions. After finding the answers to your questions, it should be time to consider the features that should be considered before purchasing a smartphone.

Screen Display

AMOLED and LCD  panels are our smartphones’ most used screen technologies in 2022. Previously, the first was only preferred on high-end smartphones; however, they can easily be found even in the lower segments. Online AMOLED panels benefit from providing perfect blacks and infinite contrast for a highly comfortable viewing experience if you stream various content.LCD panels can also produce high-quality screens only that their blacks aren’t as deep as the first. The screen refresh rate also plays a vital role. For example, motion handling a higher refresh rate generally results in smoother motion. Various smartphones featuring 60Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz, or even 144 Hz displays can be easily accessed.

RAM and SoC performance

The SoC (system-on-a-chip) and RAM (Random Access Memory) are the brains of your phone’s performance as they determine any smartphone’s responsiveness and general performance. Using anything lower than 4GB of RAM in 2022 should be considered a curse because, for the smoother function of your gadget, we will recommend smartphones with either 8GB or 6GB of RAM. We don’t despise 4GB of RAM because 4GB should ensure a good multitasking experience if you don’t have a dozen heavy apps. However, don’t be fooled easily by a more significant number of RAM as the processor is the component that has the most significant impact on a smartphone’s performance. The processor market is highly competitive. Most Android smartphones today run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPUs and MEDIATEK’S. However, we have witnessed various smartphone makers creating their processors over the years. For example, Samsung has Exynos, Google has Tensor chips, and Apple has Bionic SoCs.

Camera Quality

Unfortunately, most smartphone consumers prioritize the camera spec sheet compared to other smartphone capabilities. Camera sensors on smartphones have increased over time, yet funnily enough, quantity does not necessarily equate to quality. Some of the sensors located on the back of our smartphone include

Wide-angle sensor

Almost often, this is the best sensor on the picture module. I’d think it accounts for a higher proportion of the MegaPixel range. As a result, it’s likely the one you use the most to capture special occasions in your life.

ultra- Wide-angle sensor

This sensor has a broader angle than the wide-angle sensor, allowing you to snap images with a broader perspective. It might be helpful when you don’t have enough area to photograph a landscape or group shots inside. However, its quality lags below wide-angle sensors since it collects less light.

telephoto sensor

This sensor enables optical zooming with little picture quality degradation. This may be incredibly handy if you want to capture a distant subject while retaining a high degree of quality.

It’s hard to discuss picture sensors without addressing the megapixel count. Twelve megapixels, 32 megapixels, 50 megapixels, and 108 megapixels Let’s get one thing clear right away: the greater the number, the worse the quality of the images recorded that is why a 12-megapixel photo sensor, on the other hand, may produce more stunning photos than a 108-megapixel sensor.

Battery Life

The screen is essential in determining how long a smartphone’s battery lasts. Its consumption level is determined by its size, definition, brightness, and refresh rate. A 4K 120 Hz panel with 1000 nits of illumination will have a more significant effect than a Full HD+ 90 Hz monitor with the same brightness and diagonal. The processor and software optimization has a significant impact as well. A more powerful SoC is not necessarily more energy-intensive because it is equipped with low-power cores that do the most minor “greedy” activities. All of these factors contribute to the battery life of smartphones, so don’t be fooled by the battery capacity. A larger battery capacity does not automatically imply a longer battery life.

Audio

Headphones may be obsolete on our cellphones in a few years. Some companies do this to make room for additional components, while others promote their wireless headphones. Fortunately, good cellphones with a jack are still available. A single speaker is often found on the phone’s bottom edge on entry-level phones. A second speaker situated right above the screen is only available on high-end versions.

Certifications for water resistance

Our smartphone follows us around every day, posing potential risks such as spilling water on it or falling into a pool of water. Its technical datasheet has the waterproofing certification. This takes the form of a protection index, followed by numbers and letters. The first number indicates the resistance to solids, such as dust or sand grains. The second identifies the water resistance level.

Network

5G network has not yet been widely used in my country here in Kenya, yet some 5G smartphones can easily support 5G in specific areas. 5G provides quicker speeds, allowing you to enjoy cloud gaming, faster downloads, and more consistent video conversations, among other things.
