Gozem, West Africa’s taxi booking app, launches in Douala, Cameroon

Gozem, the super app already operational in Lome, Cotonou, Libreville, and several other West African cities, today announces the launch of its taxi cab booking service in Douala to allow Cameroonians to order a taxi ride at the click of a button.

Gozem’s goal is to simplify and improve the quality of life of members of local communities across West and Central Africa via a unique digital ecosystem. Its taxi booking service makes it easier for users to move around their cities on the one hand, and for drivers to make a living on the other. Customers simply open the app, enter their location, select their destination, and launch their order. Then, the nearest available pre-vetted Gozem driver comes to pick them up.

At the end of the ride, thanks to GPS & other technologies, the app calculates the fare based on time spent and distance traveled, eliminating any need to negotiate. The user can then pay with cash, MTN MoMo, Orange Money, or via credit card. This is a real revolution in the transport sector in Douala.

“We are very excited to bring Cameroonians a simplified, safer, and more convenient taxi cab solution. Based on our experience in other Francophone markets across West & Central Africa, we are convinced that Gozem’s innovative offering will create real value for Douala’s passengers & drivers now, and others across the country in the near future. Very soon, we will expand the range of services we offer in Cameroon to include motorcycles and delivery services, based on the needs of users,” said Jean-Martial Moulaud, Gozem Group Director.

In addition to the taxi cab ride-hailing service announced today, Gozem will soon offer Cameroonians the ability to order motorcycle & tricycle (tuk tuk) taxis, as well as delivery of groceries, gas bottles, meals, and more via the all-in-one Gozem super app.

After Togo, Benin, and Gabon, Cameroon is the fourth country in which Gozem operates. The app, which has over a million downloads today, was launched in 2018 with the objective of bringing world-class services to diverse populations across West & Central Africa by leveraging smartphones and other modern technologies.
