Last month, the finalists of the World Car Awards were revealed. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 appeared in several categories including the 2022 World Car of the Year Award. The final day arrived and the Hyundai took home the prestigious title beating the Ford Mustang Mach E and the Kia EV6 which shares the same electric platform with the Hyundai. All three finalists were electric vehicles.
“The pace of change at Hyundai will continue unabated through the rest of 2022 as we will soon be adding to our award-winning IONIQ range,” said Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, about the award.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 also won the World Electric Vehicle of the Year Award, in this category, the car was battling with Audi E-Tron GT and Mercedes Benz EQS.
Finally, the last award by the Hyundai was the World Car Design title. The electric car won against the Kia EV6 again and the Audi E – Tron GT.

Diving into the other categories, the Audi E-Tron GT took the World Performance Car category whose other finalists were BMW M3, M4, Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ.
“Our big goal with the Audi E-Tron GT was to reimagine the Gran Turismo philosophy for the electric age,” said Christiane Zorn, Head of Product Marketing at Audi
In the World Luxury Car category, the Mercedes-Benz EQS took the win edging out the BMW iX and Genesis GV70.
