Chevrolet confirms an Electric AWD Corvette is coming

Chevy Corvette is synonymous with roaring engine sounds and speed but with the auto industry going strict on emissions, Chevrolet has announced a transition to electric motors in the next version of the iconic car.

General Motors President Mark Reuss speaking on CNBC confirmed that an electric Chevrolet Corvette is coming. Chevrolet – one of General Motors brands – released a teaser video.

From the video, you can see that the Corvette is spinning all four wheels confirming it will have an all wheel drive system. Look closely and you will note that it’s the front wheels that spin first. This might mean that Chevrolet will follow the same approach as the Acura NSX whereby the electric motors will drive the front wheels and the rear ones will be powered by a modified V8 engine found on the current Corvette C8, making it a hybrid vehicle. Its the best of both worlds, the car keeps emissions low as required by the law while also retaining the roaring sound. In case you still prefer a raw internal combustion engine powered Corvette, Chevy said that gas powered versions will still be available.

Apparently, the upcoming hybrid car has been testing on public roads for over a year now could be called the Corvette E- Ray. Interestingly, President Biden first hinted about the car during his campaign trail, claiming he’d been told that it was in development, and that it would be capable of 200 mph. He then added last year that he’s been promised a drive in one.

Finally, the Corvette will have a full electric version launched further down the line. All upcoming electrified cars from General Motors brands will have the Ultium Energy Recovery system as standard, it will not only increase the range but also enable faster charging speeds and acceleration.
