Ford Pro, the automakers division founded last year that builds commercial vehicles, has today unveiled E-Transit Custom, an electric van with striking looks.
The design is undeniably cool for a work van. It has narrow, squinted headlights with full width LED strip at the front sitting above the big faux grille which has no mechanical purpose on an electric car but is aesthetically pleasing. The right side of the bumper hosts the charging port, while on the left side of the grille sits the “E” badge. The new graphics of the headlights are borrowed at the rear where the “E Transit” and “Custom” badges are blacked out.
Ford didn’t reveal the powertrain specifications, they only pointed out that the electric van can travel 380 kilometers (236 miles) on a single charge. This estimation is based on Europe’s rather generous WLTP labs. The van supports DC fast charging, but particulars were not announced. However, the E-Transit Custom has a neat feature which enables it to power work tools, lights and other appliances straight from its battery. Ford promises further details will be released on September.
According to Autocar, the E-Transit Custom will share the same 181- and 265-horsepower electric motors with the larger E-Transit. Both are located at the rear axle and generate 318 pound-feet (431 Newton-meters) of instant torque. The acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) is less than seven seconds and a maximum speed of 85 mph (137 km/h).
The same publication confirmed that the E-Transit Custom van will have the same 12 inch infotainment screen running SYNC 4 system like its older sibling.
