Sedans have been experiencing low sales and the Subaru Legacy is not immune. So far, Legacy’s sales are down nearly 10 percent for the year. The automaker has released a refreshed mid cycle version in an attempt to appease loyal fans while also enticing new ones.
The sedan, to be called the 2023 Subaru Legacy, will arrive in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring XT versions. All models will arrive with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. In addition, across the board, there will be a redesigned front fascia which incorporates a new aggressive bumper below a larger grille and restyled LED headlights.
2023 Legacy will come installed with the latest version of its EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. It is equipped with Wide-Angle Mono Camera but only on the Touring XT version the others will have the previously used two standard angle cameras for detecting pedestrians and bicycles at low-speed intersections. Models equipped with blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert now feature automatic emergency steering.
Legacy Sport version builds on the Premium model, it will be distinguished by red accent across the grille with gray paint job on its side mirrors, trunk spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels. To justify the Sport moniker, Subaru has replaced the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharged 2.4-liter unit that makes 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet (375 Newton-meters) of torque. In addition, the Sport version comes with a sport-tuned suspension, a moonroof, LED fog lights, reverse automatic braking and a driver distraction mitigation system.
