African Institute of Mathematical Sciences – Ghana has signed a Masters Sponsored Research Agreement (MSRA) with Google Research aimed at advancing the frontiers of scientific research in areas of specialization like artificial intelligence .
The agreement seeks to further strengthen the partnership between both institutions as part of efforts to enforce their ongoing commitment to collaborate and advance computing and technology in Africa.

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is an African network of Centers of Excellence for postgraduate training, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences. Founded in 2003 in South Africa and later replicated in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and Rwanda under the framework of the Next Einstein Initiative, AIMS is supplying the STEM pipeline by training African students for a Master’s in Mathematical Sciences, including a co-operative option with a direct link to industry. Students admitted at AIMS benefit from full scholarships and close interaction with tutors and professors from around the world. The faculty is made up of volunteer professors from the best universities in the world, including Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates.
In 2018, AIMS received the support of Google as one of the founding partners of the African Masters in Machine Intelligence (AMMI) Program, which has successfully trained over 100 students in the area of AI and data science. The AMMI program, known as the best Artificial Intelligence (AI) education in Africa, has successfully been run in three AIMS Centres: Rwanda, Senegal and Ghana.
