Apple TV Now Supports A New Video Format, HDR10+

Apple’s annual developer’s conference announcements have been slightly overshadowed by the extensive reports of its presentation, with the MacBook Air M2 in the lead. However, the information is beginning to trickle in.

For example, we heard that tvOS 16 would be available this September on the Apple TV, the Apple-branded set-top box. We also know that the Apple TV app will support a new video format called HDR10+.

Both Dolby Vision and HDR10+, the two primary contenders for high-end HDR formats, will be supported by Apple TV in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and tvOS 16. To make use of it, the screen on which the material is seen must be compatible. The video itself must also support HDR10+.

However, although there is a lack of uniformity in the adoption of HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, this move will enable customers always to be confident in using the greatest picture technology available for their content on their terminal.

Samsung continues to refuse to sell Dolby Vision TVs, preferring to focus only on HDR10+, which it helped design. Remember that Samsung is the market leader in terms of television sales. Sony and LG, on the other hand, ignore HDR10+ in favor of Dolby Vision.

HDR10+, like Dolby Vision, employs dynamic information to provide a more realistic rendering scene by scene, while HDR10 is a static standard. Compared to HDR10, the HDR10+ does not offer any additional brightness or color depth.
