Xiaomi’s Android TV box is now more accessible and efficient than before

The new Android TV box 4K “Mi Box 4S Max” presented by Xiaomi in China can now be accessed on their site for purchase. The Xiaomi Mi Box 4S Max last week is a new 4K Android box that deserves our attention

The Mi Box 4S Max is currently only available in China and is based on an Amlogic S905X3 SoC with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. This 12 nm device with 4 Cortex A55 cores and a Mali-G31 MP2 graphics component is well-known among TV box aficionados.

However, despite being well-equipped, the new Mi Box 4S Max lacks the certifications required to access the finest playback quality on streaming services. It also requires a VPU that supports HDR but not the AV1 codec, which is becoming increasingly popular on the market

The Mi Box 4S Max’s connectivity is limited to Wi-Fi 5 and is centered on a USB-A 3.0 and an HDMI 2.1 output that supports 4K HDR at 60 Hz, but not 8K… at least on paper, according to Android PCTV.

We rely on Android 11 and the MiUI for TV overlay and Bluetooth remote control with a Google Assistant-compatible microphone. There is also support for the Dolby and DTS Audio standards but no Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos certification.

The Mi Box 4S is not available in our local markets so hard to tell about its prices. Until otherwise see you
