Scania unveils new electric trucks with up to 350km range

A new line of battery-electric trucks from Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania have been unveiled. They are intended for regional operations and feature 624kWh battery packs with a range of up to 350 kilometers and charging speeds of up to 375kW.

Scania claims that 4×2 or 6×2*4 truck with 624kWh of battery capacity will provide up to 350km of range. To break it down further, a truck will get up to 320km at 40 tonnes load and 230km range at the 64 tonnes max gross tonne weight. Range will vary depending on weight, configuration, and the topography of the driving route.

Using the 375kW charging, the battery pack can be fully recharged in under 90 minutes. In this manner, the trucks could maximise efficiency by charging during the required 45-minute driver rest period.

Scania’s powertrain, which has a 410kW (550hp) rating, will deliver the required electromechanical power take-off. It will have enough electricity to allow the trucks to operate anything from power-hungry hook lifts to temperature-controlled transports.

“We are now increasing our range in every dimension by offering new opportunities for a vast selection of customers and the whole transport ecosystem,” said Christian Levin, Scania’s CEO.

“The only thing that stands between us and a major transition to a fossil-free transport system based on electrified solutions is a complete charging infrastructure, but we are seeing great progress there too.”
