Telkom Kenya has completed the first phase of its countrywide 4G/LTE network expansion that saw 224 sites in the coast and lower eastern region connected.
Some of the regions covered include Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Makueni, Machakos, Kitui, Kajiado and Taita Taveta. Telkom says the network expansion in areas is a key milestone within the nationwide network rollout plan that the company together with its partner’s networks and telecommunications company Ericsson, and systems integrator NEC XON In November 2021, Telkom Kenya, announced to install additional 2000 4G sites onto Tlekoms Mobile 4G/LTE Network by 2023.
The nationwide rollout is part of Telkom’s long-term network expansion strategy that addresses digital transformation and lays the groundwork for the company’s long-term goal to become the technology partner of choice to its customers in Kenya and the region. the project is set to cost Telkom Sh $100M.
Digital transformation is particularly important within the telecommunication sector creating an increased demand for broadband connectivity and digital platforms by the individual consumer corporates and the public sector.
Speaking on the rollout, Telkom Kenya CEO Mugo Kibati said, “This is a very exciting milestone for Telkom. We firmly believe that mobile Data is a fundamental human right and it has now emerged as a daily necessity. “
He added, ” We remain committed to better position our infrastructure asset base and services to drive digital transformation within our various customer segments thus providing them with more value as bridge the digital divide through the expansion of our Mobile Data Network”
Today’s customer is also demanding more competitive and comprehensive products that address the ever-changing customer needs such as browsing, downloading, streaming, mobile money transactions, reading news and other cations that are now very important in their daily lives.
Telkom prepaid subscribers at the coast and lower Eastern regions will enjoy the Telkom Barizi bundle, an hourly bundle that is exclusive to customers within the regions.
