Vodacom awards insurance cover to people with special needs and their defendants at the CRDB Bank Marathon

 Vodacom Tanzania, the technology service company has awarded three winners with special needs an insurance cover known as Faraja Yangu under VodaBima product that will cover them together with their three dependants for one year, in the CRDB Bank marathon in which the cover is worth about Tsh30 million.

The CRDB Marathon with a theme ‘Kasi Isambazayo Tabasamu’ was organized in partnership with Vodacom Tanzania Foundation and other partners where Vodacom sponsored Tsh10 million. The beneficiaries of the overall monies raised are  Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) and the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI). The monies will go towards treating women with Fistula at CCBRT and covering surgery costs for underprivileged children with cardiac diseases at JKCI.

Speaking during the event, the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Phillip Mpango who was the guest of honour said when handing over cheques to Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute and CCBRT Hospital executives, “The government’s policy prioritizes mother and child health. I am relieved to see that this race is aimed at helping to strengthen this area by making sure the intended goal is achieved.”

He went on to urge other institutions and stakeholders to continue such support with a view of helping vulnerable communities especially women, children and the elderly.

On her side, Rosalynn Mworia, Vodacom’s Corporate Affairs Director who is also Vodacom Tanzania Foundation Director said, “Vodacom aims to raise awareness on its VodaBima products and get more users to use the service and products offered and the benefits that comes from accessing insurance products through VodaBima.”

She said the main aim is to build inclusivity in all aspects of Tanzanians’ lives, and more specifically in financial services and economic activity. With insurance now being available via mobile services, it will serve to get more Tanzanians who otherwise would miss this vital service to get the coverage they deserve and need.

In view of the above she noted that, the insurance cover under the Faraja Yangu product that was awarded to the winners and their three dependents will cover three areas comprising life insurance, hospital cash and personal accident.

The winners include Dar es Salaam residents Shukuru Halfan, Paul Musa and Nasri Juma who resides in Manyara region.

The marathon, which kicked off at 5am at the Green ground in Oysterbay attracted over 6000 participants led by the Vice President Dr. Mpango who participated in the 5km fun run and at the end of

the event presented a dummy cheque for Tsh250 million to JKCI Acting Managing Director, Dr. Delila Kimambo and another one worth Tsh220 million to CCBRT Managing Director Brenda Msangi.

Also in attendance were Retired President Jakaya Kikwete who flagged off the 5km fun run from the Green ground to Tanzanite Bridge, others were Deputy Speaker Mussa Azan Zungu, CRDB Board chairman, Ally Laay and Vodacom Tanzania Director’s.

Meanwhile, CRDB Bank Managing Director Abdulmajid Musa Nsekela said the marathon was another huge success that encourages them to continue organizing more marathons in the future.
