Mercedes unveils eActros LongHaul electric truck with 500 km range

At the IAA Hanover Exhibition show, Daimler Trucks, the truck division of Mercedes-Benz, unveiled its longest-range long-haul electric truck – the eActros LongHaul.

The new truck comes with three battery packs with a total capacity of more than 600 kWh and a claimed range of more than 500km (310 miles). It is not clear that this range is achieved when the truck is fully loaded but that is usually the case.

The truck is powered by two electric motors that produce 400kW of continuous power and 600kW for short climbs. The motors are connected to a new axle that is not found on the standard-range model.

In terms of charging this massive battery pack, the eActros uses the new Megawatt charging standard which can fast charge from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. The battery is based on LFP chemistry which usually has lower range but makes up for it by having less degradation overtime. In line with this, the company expects the eActros LongHaul to be able to provide services for at least 10 years and 1.2 million km (750,000 miles).

Mercedes-Benz stated that the truck shown in Hanover is not a production model, but rather an indication of the design direction they intend to take with the final version. The technology and drivetrain, on the other hand, are exactly what will be found in the production version, which will be available in 2024.
