Tesla Launches ‘Universal’ Home Charging Station Priced at $550

Tesla has introduced a home charging station that is also compatible with non-Tesla electric automobiles. For autos made for the North American market, Tesla uses its own exclusive connector, unlike all other electric car manufacturers which means that the company’s home chargers and charging network are only compatible with its own electric automobiles.

Tesla’s design has won praise for being significantly more user-friendly and effective than the CCS/J1772 standard that the rest of the industry has chosen. The company has made it clear that, as it did in Europe, it will install CCS connectors to Supercharger stations in North America.

‘Our J1772 Wall Connector is a convenient charging solution for Tesla and non-Tesla electric vehicles alike, and is ideal for houses, apartments, hospitality properties and workplaces.

If you are a developer, manager or owner of commercial real estate and interested in purchasing more than 12 J1772 Wall Connectors, visit Commercial Charging.

With up to 44 miles of range added per hour, a 24-foot cable, multiple power settings and a versatile indoor/outdoor design, J1772 Wall Connector provides unparalleled convenience. It can also power-share to maximize existing electrical capacity, automatically distributing power and allowing you to charge multiple vehicles simultaneously.’

Tesla’s brand-new J1772 Wall Connector is selling on its website for $550.

According to Tesla’s description, the company may be targeting the market for commercial charging. The station may be used by Tesla’s own cars although they will need to utilize an adaptor that came with the car. Otherwise, Tesla users must utilize the original Wall Connector from Tesla, which costs $400 less and comes with the Tesla-specific plug.
