Twitter Verification May Cost Extra For iPhone Users

It may cost more for iPhone users to subscribe to Twitter Blue, the premium plan that ensures exclusive features and a blue verification badge.

According to The Platform, Elon Musk’s social media company intends to charge iPhone users $11 (roughly Rs 900) for Blue’s subscription in order to cover Apple’s 30% App Store fee that developers pay for each transaction made on their app. Last month, a limited number of countries temporarily offered Twitter Blue to users for $8, but the rollout was stopped after some spam and parody accounts were incorrectly verified. The global relaunch of Twitter Blue has not yet been officially announced by Twitter, and the new price has not been made public.

In a tweet last month, Musk said, “Did you know Apple puts a secret 30 per cent tax on everything you buy through their App Store?.” Earlier in May, he called App Store’s 30 per cent fee a “tax on the internet”, adding it is “definitely not ok.”

Apple had also decided to stop running advertisements on Twitter, but after the Musk-Cook meeting, that decision was reversed.
